Material development.
Normally designing is deciding. This time the Dutch designer Isabelle Leijn worked on a whole different project with a manufacturer who is also normally working with CAD/CAM files of ordinary product-designers.

The manufacturer

is Cebal S.A.S. France, they manufacture foils and tubes for the cosmetic industry. High shiny and polished little tubes for the expensive and exclusive French make-up industry.

The designer

designs interiors and products for furniture-manufacturers and in assignment to clients.

Together

they worked on this project without knowing what exactly to expect.
I, the designer, worked in the middle of the plant, we interrupted the conveyor line. There where the granulate has become an endless tube and before it was cut into special sized little tubes. I catched it in especially made molds, trying to make sense to it. I let the tubes drop, manipulated it by hand, folding, bending and leading the hot material over the molds. This forms unexpected, inspiring and interesting surfaces. Tubes meant for creams became stools. Foil became a surface, a landscape by treating the hot fluid by hand. Shown in Copenhagen at the Showroom till 21 October.
